WhatsApp Will Stop Running for Old Android And iPhone Devices Starting January 1

As the messaging app phases out old operating systems, millions of phones around the world will stop being able to run WhatsApp from January 1, 2021.

In some cases, in order to keep WhatsApp alive, phones may be upgraded to more up-to-date, but others will lose it entirely. To remain to be relevant to newer devices, WhatsApp will lose support for older devices.

Phones set to lose WhatsApp support on 1 January 2021:
– Apple iPhone 1-4
– Samsung Galaxy S2
– HTC Desire
– LG Optimus Black
– Motorola Droid Razr
– Any Android released before 2010

At the same time, the app will not be running in any Android system running something older than Android 4.0.3 and iOS below 9.

If you have a phone that can’t be updated and you don’t want your chats to be lost, make sure you back them up before New Year’s Eve.

By opening the chat that you want to save and clicking on Group Data, you can do this. To be given the option to download the chat with or without the included files, you will then need to tap Export Chat.

Unfortunately, you’ll need to start searching for a new one in 2021 if your phone can not be upgraded. WhatsApp was launched back in 2009 and is still the world’s most famous messaging app.

The app was purchased for $19 billion by Facebook in 2014. Facebook is currently in the process of integrating WhatsApp with Instagram and Facebook Messenger so that all three apps can communicate together with users.
