KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 – A total of 505 underprivileged students in Perak have received essential school supplies from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) under the UTP Menggapai Impian and Yayasan UTP School Kits Giving programme.
UTP, in a statement today, said the programme is part of the university’s social responsibility initiatives to ease the financial burden of low-income families from the surrounding areas by equipping their children with school kits, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“UTP and Petronas staff volunteer to sponsor a minimum of RM200 for each student. The student will receive school necessities in the form of bags, stationery and shopping voucher for the new school term … this is to motivate their children to learn and give them a chance for a better future.
“The school supplies were handed over to the Perak State Education Department through Perak Tengah District Education Officer Mohd Fathilah Mohd Noor,” it said.
The statement also said donations of more RM100,000 were received from UTP and Petronas staff this year.
“Since its launching in 2007, more than 1,900 students from orphanages, welfare homes, shelters and schools as well as children of UTP janitors and security personnel have benefited from the programme,” the statement said.
