The practice of sleeping late or staying up at night does have a variety of effects on a person. The matter may be due to having slept for a long time during the day.
If you spend all day just sleeping, at night the eyes will definitely be fresh. This routine can actually have a negative impact on our health.
The Ministry of Health Malaysia through its official Twitter account has shared the impact that will be received if you are often awake at night.
To find out more, here are the impacts of staying up at night on your health as follows:
1) Disorders of cognitive function, forgetfulness, and lack of concentration
– It can cause a decrease in ‘white matter’ in the brain which is important for the learning process.
2) Obesity and Diabetes
– Disorders in the body’s metabolism and hormonal changes (insulin and cortisol) cause individuals to be hungry and craving carbohydrate/sugar foods than usual.
3) Emotions are disturbed
– Lack of sleep causes the areas of the brain that control the activity of ‘making decisions and making planning’ to stop functioning. So it stimulates instinct and risky behavior.
4) Basic health impact
– The basic impact on the body’s immunity can cause body infections such as colds and others because it can lead to cancer.
The MOH also reminded everyone that even one night, it affects the biological clock of the individual which in turn disrupts the regulation of blood sugar.
