Pak Mie Shelter With Almost 600 Animals In Need Of A New Place After They Got Eviction Notice

Pak Mie Shelter that is currently located in Alor Setar, Kedah which has been saving stray dogs and also cats for as long as 10 years now, has recently received an eviction notice from the Alor Setar City Council (MBAS).

In the particular eviction notice, they only give them seven days to move their animals and then relocate to another place. Unfortunately for Pak Mie Shelter, they are still having difficulties looking for a new home to place the animals.

Badrul Hisham Ramlee stated, “We complied with the notice but now, we do not know where to bring all these dogs and cats because it involves almost 600 of them. We appeal to corporate or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to help find a new place for these strays. We need a temporary place such as an old factory or an area of one acre to build a new, temporary center”.

Pak Mie shelter was founded by the parents of Badrul Hisham Ramlee that are 73-year-old Halijah Idris or better known as Mak Intan by the community and also the late Allahyarham Muhammad Azmi Isma. They have received the particular eviction notice for them to give way to the construction project of the regional sewage treatment plant and also the ongoing Kota Setar sewerage pipeline network.

Badrul Hisham Ramlee also stated that the Alor Setar mayor, as well as MBAS, have assisted them kindly in really searching for new locations suited for the shelter. Sadly, all the suggested locations were rejected by the community. He said, “There were three previous suggestions, one in which was Pokok Sena but residents of the area objected. Another was at Pendang, which is near a waste disposal site but it is not suitable for the long term. One more suggestion was a rubber plantation area that is far from residents but there are people who have already started planting rubber trees there”.

Mak Intan, the late Pak Mie, and also Badrul Hisham Ramlee have dedicated most of their lives to help many stray animals and also showing all the animals the love that they deserve in this world. During this hard and trying time for Pak Mie Shelter, the least that we can do to ease their burden nowadays is by trying to help them financially or a strategic location for them to use.
