Success Story: Maricel Apatan, A Chef With No Hands

The journey of our life would never be easy for anyone in this whole wide world. There certainly will be challenges that many people need to face here and there. It depends on the individual himself or even herself to fight through all the challenges and survive or just decided to give up and messed up their own life.

This is what happened to a particular chef in the Philippines named Maricel Apatan whose hands, unfortunately, got chopped off when she was just an 11-years-old little girl. According to a statement, the horrific story of how Maricel Apatan lost her hands started when she went to draw water with her uncle. On their way, they bumped into four cruel armed men that carried long knives.

Shockingly, these men turned out to be her own neighbors. She and her uncle were told to face down on the ground, where they hacked at her uncle’s neck, killing him instantly. Maricel panicked and ran for her life, only to get chased down. She screamed, “Don’t kill me! Have mercy on me!” but the men ignored her and stabbed her in the neck.

She lost consciousness and when she had awakened, she pretended to be dead in another effort to escape. The poor girl only got up and ran home after the men had left, but as she ran, she noticed that her hands were dangling off. Before she managed to reach home and alert her shocked mother, she lost consciousness several times on her way.

The fact that she survived is very amazing and instead of allowing her tragic circumstances to get the best of her, she managed to rise beyond her terrifying experience and the disability that came with it to become the best version of herself.

In her life journey, Maricel Apatan had studied hard and then graduated with a Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and also completed a culinary course to become the great chef that she becomes today.

Other than that, she was also said to be one of the best in computers, most courteous, and also most industrious from the schools that she attended and has since gone on to work at world-renowned hotels such as The Manila Marriot Hotel and also Shangri-La in Manila. Her successful achievement is something to be set as an example for many people in this whole wide world.

Through her own story, it would prove that having some disadvantages and also challenges in life should never bring you down and grieve forever. Take your time to face the reality, shake it off, and move forward so that you can achieve more in life and eventually could make you so happy and satisfied.
