(Video) After ‘Brownface’ Backlash, Malaysian Singer Choo Hao Ren Release New Song

A particular Malaysian singer and also actor named Choo Hao Ren who went viral in the month of January 2021 for posting a music video titled ‘White Doll’ that showed ‘brownface’ in an attempt to promote skin whitening products has released a brand new music video.

But this time around, he releases a music video named ‘Lovely Doll’ and it is all about the lesson that he has learned from his own previous music video mistakes.

The whole song is based on the experience that he went through when he received major backlash for his previous music video. Hao Ren also expresses his conviction in the heartfelt lyrics of the song.

Some of the important lyrics to the song ‘Lovely Doll’ which is originally sung in Mandarin stated:

“Every skin tone is beautiful, there’s no need to change your originality for someone else. Everyone is unique and wonderful in our own way, and yet we’re all creations of God”.

“Inspired by a true story, change the mindset, let’s educate our friends who discriminate. Say no to colorism, let’s all learn together. We are all Malaysia’s baby”.

“Face the music, make no excuse, that’s the lesson taught by my parents”.

In the music video, Hao Ren also talks about how many people condemned him but he says that he humbly accepts all criticism as it is part of the process of learning and growing. He adds that others can learn from his incident too.
