KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 — Youths who aspire to become professional e-sports players have been urged not to neglect their studies while pursuing interest in the competitive video gaming.
National FIFA21 champion Muhammad Luqman Hajiman said this as he was slightly worried that the element of fun in the virtual arena would steal the focus and attention of individuals from more important thing in life such as education.
Universiti Malaya (UM) student Muhammad Luqman, 24, considers education as the most important component in life and able to ensure the survival of an individual in the future.
He said the life of e-sports professional players is often described as exciting, but during his three years as a professional had opened his eyes to the importance of education.
“I have always emphasised on the importance of education. It will serve as a fallback plan if our dream of becoming professional e-sports athlete fail to materialise,” he told Bernama.
“I always remind aspiring athletes, especially my younger siblings who are still in school that the e-sports industry is still unstable, particularly in Malaysia as it is still very new here,” said a Bachelor of Finance final year student.
“For those who want to enter this industry please don’t neglect your study. It may be difficult to juggle between study and training, but it is very important. We need to have our own initiative to schedule daily activities,” said Muhammad Luqman, also known Fenrir in the virtual court.
Meanwhile, another FIFA21 professional player Ahmad Shahrin Shaharudin was of the view that it would be difficult to turn e-sports as a lifelong career based on the age factor and increasing responsibilities.
“I think everyone knows e-sports is for young people and it will not last, let alone to view it as a career. Hence, it is very important that we equip ourselves with education for our future.
“For me, there may be good improvements but still unstable to turn e-sports as a career,” said the 21-year-old accounting student at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
Muhammad Luqman and Ahmad Shahrin, representing the GBX E-Sports Team, are now on the verge of making history in the FIFA21 video game globally at the FIFAe Club World Cup Tournament which will take place online from tomorrow to Feb 28.
The two, who are considered as the country’s top FIFA21 players, have been actively preparing to carry Malaysia’s challenge in the final round of the FIFAe Club World Cup Championship from tomorrow to Feb 28.
Muhammad Luqman previously made history by emerging as the first Southeast Asian player to advance to the FIFAe World Cup qualifying round in Barcelona, Spain in 2018.
