In dramas, we often see wives or husbands hire a professional to trail their significant other to find proof of infidelity. In China, this practice turns out to be true to life after all. A 31-year-old man established his career as an ’emotional counselor’.
Xiao Sheng specializes in breaking up married Chinese men from their mistresses and making sure they return to their wives, who are also his clients. He has been in the business for six years. Currently, he has an office of 8-person staff working alongside him including situation analysts, customer service manager, actor, and director for staged scenes.
His services can be very expensive considering the complexity of his methods. He caters to clients that can afford to pay 150,000 yuan (RM95,052). He detailed some of his cases. Last fall, a woman whose husband cheated on her with a younger woman hired his services. He posed as a vacation planner and organized vacation for the married couple. The husband received a letter from his mistress wanting to break up along with photos as the cherry on top.
The vacation allows the husband to process everything and mend his marital relationship. This resulting in him breaking up with the mistress. This is what you would call “mission success”.
Although most times Xiao Sheng and his team will approach the men, sometimes they approach the mistress as well. However, it is more difficult and time-consuming.
It is not surprising that Xiao’s services booms in China. The republic is known for its statistics in marital infidelity in an article back in 2017. There is even a ‘training course’ for mistresses. The culture of extra-marital affairs in the country is concerning, yet it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Thailand is also another country where rich men having a ‘second house’, keeping a mistress on the side is a norm.
