Movie Review: Finding Courage And Home In ‘Finding ‘Ohana’ Movie

‘Finding ‘Ohana’ is actually a 2021 American family adventure movie by Jude Weng in her directorial debut and also written by Christina Strain. The movie stars many interesting casts such as Kea Peahu, Alex Aiono, Lindsay Watson, Owen Vaccaro, and also Kelly Hu. It got premiered on Netflix on the 29th of January 2021.

According to the source, ‘Finding ‘Ohana’ was shot in Brooklyn, Hawaii, Thailand, and also in the Dominican Republic. The particular movie follows two Brooklyn siblings known as Pili and also Ione on a trip to Oahu where they discover their Hawaiian heritage and a hidden treasure.

What ‘Finding ‘Ohana’ Is About

Summer in rural O‘ahu takes an exciting turn for two Brooklyn-raised siblings when a journal pointing to long-lost treasure sets them on an epic adventure with new friends and leads them to reconnect with their Hawaiian heritage. The two siblings named Pili and Ione will soon go on an adventure in search of treasure, and they will certainly find something even more valuable that is family. But this movie is not just about finding a way to connect Pili with her brother, mother, and grandfather. This movie is also about connection to our larger families, with respectful and ultimately moving themes concerning cultural identity and traditions.

The pair embark on a treasure hunt that sends them and two friends into perilous situations involving venomous spider bites, boiling lava pits, steep cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, collapsing floors, falling rocks, and frightening spirits known as nightmares.

What Can Be Said About ‘Finding ‘Ohana’

This movie is such enormous fun with an entertaining mix of adventure, comedy, heartwarming family moments, and even a little teen romance. There are also some energetic and cleverly chosen pop songs on the soundtrack, to keep things from getting too tense. The scenery is gorgeous and the stunts are well-staged. The young cast is excellent.

The adventure narrative in this Hawaii-set Netflix film distracts from a deeper story about cultural heritage and also family dynamics. ‘Finding ‘Ohana’ would take you on a tepid adventure trip, but it’s worth hopping on if you want to learn a few Hawaiian words and get the traveler in you excited once again.
