Kabang, The Hero Dog of Zamboanga City Passed Away In Her Sleep

Kabang, the dog that once became the media sensation has passed away at the age of 13 in her sleep. A day after Kabang’s death, her veterinarian, Dr. Anton Lim announced memorabilia in honor of an honorable canine.

Dr. Anton Lim has been taking care of her ever since the death of her owner which is the father of the children she saved.

A Facebook post by Dr. Anton Lim showed a metal statue of one of the most celebrated animals in the Philippines. Alongside it is an impression of Kabang’s paw prints that were taken before the dog’s burial.

Born in February 2008, Kabang was announced as a hero after she saved two children from being hit by a tricycle in 2012. The unfortunate accident results in the loss of her upper snout.

The eleven-year-old and three-year-old girls were crossing the road when Kabang jumped out to shield them from a speeding tricycle. The aspin breed dog’s snout was mutilated in the motorbike’s wheel, inquiring about urgent medical help.

Kabang’s brave effort caught the international attention and moved Lim to send the dog for surgery in the United States. She was treated at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and the snout reconstruction procedure took five hours. While at it, they also treated all other complications.

Kabang is the official symbol of responsible and brave pet ownership and advocacy against animal cruelty after she was proclaimed as the ambassador of dog will.

“You’re 13 years old or 91 in human years and I knew one day this would come. No matter how I prepared myself mentally, the suddenness of how you died, left a deep void in my heart,” Lim said in one of his Facebook post. “You have always been a hero, selfless to a fault.”

“Thank you for the 8 wonderful lesson-filled years in loving life and loving unconditionally. I and my family already missed you, Kabang, even though you are gone for just a few hours,” Lim added.

“May we see each other again.”
