Many are sure to know that the former England footballer Michael Owen once played with the Spanish giants Real Madrid in the 2004-2005 La Liga season.
Interestingly, he also played with famous players such as Zidane, Roberto Carlos, and his teammate in the England team, David Beckham.
Still, did you know that Owen didn’t socialize with Beckham while they were both at Real Madrid?
This was revealed by Owen himself in his autobiography entitled Reboot. Through the autobiography, Owen told that he and Beckham rarely had much contact away from the football pitch.
“As much as we ended up living close to David and Victoria Beckham and were two English families living abroad in the same city, there wasn’t much in the way of social life as far as they and we were concerned.
“This perhaps wasn’t a surprise given that, by the time we found ourselves in Madrid together, David and I had even less in common than we ever had,” said Owen.
Beckham and Owen reportedly have different lifestyles. Beckham likes the celebrity lifestyle, while Owen prefers a simple life.
“I certainly didn’t like wearing the trendy gear or mingling among socialite company. David and Victoria, on the other hand, were both bona fide superstars in their own right.
“They were operating on a completely different stratosphere from a social perspective. I never once got the impression I was on the inner circle of David’s group of friends,” he added.
Owen’s career with Real Madrid lasted just one season, with the striker returning to the English Premier League (EPL) with Newcastle in 2005.
While Beckham remained in Madrid until 2007 and then he transferred to the LA Galaxy team in the United States.
