Success Story: The Story of G-SHOCK And How It Was Created

G-SHOCK was originally produced by a Japanese electronics company, Casio. This watch was created by a Japanese engineer named Kikuo Ibe, and the name G-SHOCK stands for ‘Gravitational Shock’. The G-SHOCK function is naturally created to withstand mechanical stress, vibration, and vibration.

But have you ever wondered why Ibe suddenly wanted to make this very durable watch? It is believed that before the beginning of the creation of this watch, Ibe had a beloved watch which was a gift from his father. Unfortunately, the watch had fallen and shattered. At the time, Ibe was determined to create a watch that was durable and not easily damaged.

To make his dream watch is not an easy thing. Ibe and his team of 3 people created this watch based on 3 main criteria or known as ‘TRIPLE 10’ which is the resistance to fall from a height of 10 meters, able to be in water pressure of 10 atm (100m), and has a battery life of 10 years.

Ibe’s problem arose when he could not identify how the electronic components in the watch to not be easily damaged if using the ‘TRIPLE 10’ principle.

However, all that changed when one day, he saw a girl playing with a ball in the park. He saw the ball bounce. From there, Ibe got the idea to make a G-SHOCK watch with a float watch engine.

Finally, Ibe’s dream became a reality when the first G-SHOCK was successfully produced with the TRIPLE 10 principle in 1983 with two models: the black and red DW-5000C-1A and the black and gold DW-5000C-1B. It uses a floating engine structure, that is, after 2 years of the project started.

To this day, G-SHOCK remains the choice for those who love extreme activities and fashion through collaboration with various major world brands.
