Four North Korean teenagers caught for watching the popular South Korean drama, The Penthouse has been sentenced to forced labor in labor education camps for 10 to 12 years.
The punishment was based on their offenses under the ‘Anti-reactionary Ideology Cultural Exclusion Act’ which was enforced under the auspices of the Kim Jong Un government.
The four offenders were caught while watching the drama as one of the events to celebrate the birthday of one of them on May 25. According to reports, the four teenagers were each sentenced to 10 to 12 years, with the individual celebrating their birthday serving the longest term of 12 years.
When arrested, as many as 30 South Korean dramas, as well as Kpop music, were found in their pen drives. North Korea bans any type of entertainment from any foreign country from entering their country.
