Must Be At Workplace During Lockdown Phase? Practice These 5 Safety Measures

The COVID-19 pandemic forced many people into months of remote work and endless Zoom meetings. In Malaysia, this particular situation sadly still continues as this country has commenced on total lockdown to help flatten the infection curve of COVID-19. Nevertheless, some workplaces need to allow employees to return to the office and the workers need to take extra precaution steps while they are working so that there would be no cases of infection occur.

Different types of workplaces need to enforce different safety measures for their workers so that the workplace is COVID-secure. This is because not everyone works in an office. Some of them work in a lab, open space area, a factory that needs many workers at one time, and many others. Doesn’t matter what is the circumstances, prevention is always better than cure. For the workers, they might want to try these 5 general safety measures while they at work.

1) Workplace Needs To Provide Protections For The Employees.

Making sure all the employees have the protections that they need when they have to work at the workplace is very crucial. This is because we do not want any coronavirus infection to happen in the first place. Protections such as hand sanitizer, social distancing rules, PPEs such as masks, and face shields need to be available at the workplace.

2) Clean And Sanitize Your Workspace.

Employees need to always have sanitizer and also cleaning supplies at the desk or workstation. By having these items, their own workspace would always be in a clean and infection-free area for them to do their work. Avoid touching handrails and other surfaces when possible.

3) Watch Out For The Break Areas.

Many employers are missing the mark on break rooms, and they’re even more dangerous because you can’t wear a mask while eating. It is recommended to practice six-foot distancing, emphasizing that sitting across from someone at a table is actually only about three feet. Also, remember to wipe off surfaces, refrigerator and sink handles, microwave buttons, and other commonly touched surfaces before using them.

4) Wash Clothes And Masks Every Day After Coming Home From Work.

We do not always know what we bring home from our workplace. To be safe, make sure to quickly wash your clothes and also masks once you are home. That is smart Covid-19 protection.

5) Speak To Employer About Any Concerns.

If you see something making you feel unsafe, speak to your supervisor and politely offer suggestions. Use a nonconfrontational preface to indicate your intent. For example, open your safety suggestions or concerns with a statement. Include not just your personal concern, but suggestions or recommendations for everyone in your workplace.
