YouTube Review: This Korean Guy Tried Many Popular Spicy ‘Sambal’ From Malaysia

Sambal is a chili sauce or paste, typically made from a mixture of a variety of chili peppers with secondary ingredients such as shrimp paste, garlic, ginger, shallot, scallion, palm sugar, and lime juice. Sambal is part of the cuisines of Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Brunei and also Singapore. It has also spread through overseas Indonesian populations to the Netherlands and Suriname.

Various recipes of sambals usually are served as hot and spicy condiments for dishes, such as raw vegetables, grilled fish, fried fish, fried chicken, smashed chicken, ribs and various soup. There are so many variations of sambal available in Malaysia. Because of that, this Korean YouTuber decided to review every recommended spicy sambal from this particular country.

1) Adabi Sambal Belacan Tradition Spicy

It smells a little spicy. It tastes really good but it is not that spicy. There is definitely something inside it because it has a really good texture.

2) Adabi Sambal Belacan Ikan Bilis

The taste is very similar to Korean fish sauce.

3) Adabi Sambal Belacan Modern Sweet And Spicy

The spiciness level is in number 4 among 6. There could be seen some whole chili inside it and the color is green. It tastes fine but it just not enough.

It has the familiar smell that I have smelled a lot. Had no comment to make, just able to laugh.

7) Uleg Sambal Terasi

One of the best selling sambal on Shopee. It has a taste that makes me crave for it. It is delicous.

8) Uleg Sambal Ijo

Questioned is Sambal Ijo originally green. It smells sour. Thinking that it would go well with greasy food.

9) Uleg Sambal Pedas Serbaguna

It smells like Uleg Sambal Ijo and also has same that is kind of similiar.

10) Betty’s Sambal Gila

It is labelled as extra hot. It feels less spicy because of the chili oil in it.

11) Betty’s Sambal Sewel

Can see the beans in it. The beans are crunchy and also tasty.

12) Sambal Hitam Pahang

The color is very unique. Never tasted anything like it before. It looks like black bean paste. It also looks like food made by aging it for a long time in the ground.

13) Sambal Merasuk Tempoyak Bilis Petai

One of the recommendations. It has familiar smell. There are also many beans inside the sambal.

14) Sambal Bunian Udang Garing

The shrimp can be smelled.

15) Che’ Nor Sambal Garing Ikan Bilis

It tastes familiar as the first anchovies. The anchovies are really crunchy and delicious.

16) Che’ Nor Sambal Garing Ikan Bilis Extra Spicy

It is not that spicy. The powder type sambal felt like I was eating a crunchy cookie.

17) Sambal Nyet Berapi Khairul Aming

Have been waiting for this exact moment. This sambal is famous for being sold out in one second. It is recommended by many of the subscribers. It took 5 days to buy this sambal. It tastes so yummy.
