Did You Know? These Are The Most Expensive Number Plates In The World!

Number plates are essential and subtle. Like a name, it provides your car with its own unique form of identification but it can also help the authorities keep track of the number of vehicles on the road. But most of the people wouldn’t think twice about number plates, only taking note of them in situations such as road accidents or wanting to report someone for being mischievous on the road.

However, to some individuals, a number plate is very much important compared to the vehicle itself. That is why they would spend some ridiculously big amount of money to obtain the unique plates they want.

Here is the list of the most expensive number plates in the world:

1) D5 – DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

In Dubai, the road is filled with luxury and supercars so it is to no surprise that the world’s most expensive number plate belongs to Balwinder Sahni, an Indian Businessman based in Dubai. He holds the title with his number plate – D5. After winning the auction with a bid of 33 Million AED, equivalent to£7,324,207, he told the press that ‘D5’ represents the number 9 which is considered a lucky number for him. The most expensive number plate is registered to one of his Rolls Royces.

2) O9 – DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Other than the D5, Sahni has spent 25 Million AED at a previous auction where he won the bid. You can see his other Rolls with the ‘O9’ number plate which is the third most expensive number plate in the world.

If you wonder about the 2nd most expensive plate in the world, this is it. It belongs to another Abu Dhabi man when he scored the plate at auction for a solid 31 Million AED. However, he is currently facing jail time for fraud as the cheque he wrote bounced due to insufficient funds in his bank account. He had admitted that he was aware about the lack of funds and his initial plan was to resell the number plate at a high profit to earn some quick cash.

4) 28 – HONG KONG

The number “28” holds the number 8 spot for the most expensive plate in the world. The popular number sounds like the words “easy” and “prosper”, thus the combination of both, bring luck. In 2016, the plate was bought for 18.1 Million.

5) 25 0 – THE UNITED KINGDOM

In 2014, John Collins, a Ferrari dealership owner paid £400,000 for the number plate ’25 O’, to match with his Ferrari 250 SWB. This is the most expensive registered plate in the United Kingdom but compared to the price of the car, the number plate seems rather cheap.
