(Video) Ever Heard of ‘Big Wind’? The Ultimate Fire-Fighting Machine!

It is almost unbelievable how the machine is not the latest evolution in a jet-powered shield but a fire truck. A machine that was made to put out the fire but the exterior made it the most outstanding fire truck to ever be built.

Designed by Hungarian engineers who took the tracks of a WWII-era Russian T34 tank, the jet engines from a MiG-21 are strapped to the top of this machine. It was first used in 1991 to put out the raging oil fires by Saddam Hussein’s army when they retreated from Kuwait.

Each of the jet engines delivers 27,000lbs of thrust and it is capable of powering a MiG at more than twice the speed of sound. Recently, the Big Wind has been deployed again to put out fires on commercial oil fields.

With six fire hoses around each jet engine that could release up to 8,000 gallons of water a minute, the jet could spray straight at a fire at 770mph once the engines on.
