Haitham Ahmed has shared this option on his own Twitter page. For those who might not know, he is actually a certified doctor and also a cardiometabolic researcher.

He put out a disclaimer that this is from the point of a scientific standpoint. Not as a religious expert. Nevertheless, people might see that a lot of medical reasons go well with the sunna or the tradition of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

1) Eat Dates

Dates would be the perfect help for you to begin your iftar. They have huge amounts of fructose and glucose. That will help to restore low blood sugar. Other than that, they also contain essential vitamins and minerals like potassium. In addition, they also are full of other vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, B6, fiber, and also antioxidants. Besides dates, other fruits also have this kind of quality. They are like apples, figs, or even pears.

2) Drink Water

This is also the preference of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W when he didn’t have dates. Just take a sip of water for iftar. Spike sugar is definitely not recommended because it could cause bloating and would affect the rest of the meal afterward.

3) Take A Break

Your stomach could not accept food quickly in a huge amount right after iftar. That is the reason for taking dates for iftar. The digestion of dates gives your stomach the preparation for you to eat more food after that. If you eat too much at one time, you will eventually get a food coma. This break also helps to modulate your hunger hormones.
