NASA Captures A Rare Photo of A ‘Creepy’ Smiling Sun

Happy Halloween to those who are celebrating! During this spooky season, NASA got a surprise for you! NASA captures a rare photo of a smiling sun perfectly with its eyes, nose, and mouth.

Even though the sun is smiling, it sure looks creepy. The dark patches that make the sun looks like it’s smiling are called coronal holes. Watch the video below to see the smiling sun:

The photo of the sun is captured by Nasa’s Solar Dynamics Observatory through a satellite. The agency is set to investigate the creation of solar activity and space weather. Moreover, the agency is also responsible to measure the sun’s interior, atmosphere, magnetic field, and energy output. The knowledge and information gained are used to protect astronauts, satellites, and robotic missions.

In talking about the sun, some people agree that the sun passes the Halloween vibe due to its creepy smile. Run! The boogeyman is coming for you.

Nevertheless, some people admire the beauty of the sun.

In 2014, NASA captured an almost-similar photo of the sun. The sun back then looked like a jack-o-lantern. The jack-o’-lantern existed because of the active region of the sun. However, the jack-o’-lantern sun made a disturbance in the magnetic field. This disturbance caused solar flares and coronal mass ejections.

This smiling sun also would cause the same disturbance. The ultraviolet light from the sun would lead to power outages and cell phone disruptions, said Joseph Gurman, a NASA scientist.
