Scientists Are Planning To Plant Some Plants On The Moon

Scientists from Australia and Israel are doing some research to plant some plants on the moon by 2025. The organization is known as Lunaria One.

A biologist from the Queensland University Of Technology, Bred Williams mentions that a private mission to the moon will transport the seeds. Israeli organization SpaceIL is in charge of the mission.

Can germinate and survive in extreme temperatures

Scientists will choose the plants from how quickly they can germinate. They will also choose the plants from their survivability during extreme temperatures.  At the time the plants land on the moon, scientists will monitor them for 72 hours. The data collected will be used to conduct some experiments.

According to Dr. Caitlin Byrt from The Australian National University, space is the testing ground for planting. They will need to learn how to propagate plants in extreme temperatures. This research by the organization is relevant as the number of foods on earth is becoming worrisome due to climate change.

“If you can create a system for growing plants on the Moon, then you can create a system for growing food in some of the most challenging environments on Earth.” – Dr. Byrt

The director of Lunaria One, Lauren Fell mentions that they are planting these plants not only for food but for the well-being of the people.
