Transcending the UK market

This month, Dapur Mariae supplies their vegan and gluten-free product in Co-op stores all around the United Kingdom. The couple is also accept to take part in Co-op’s Apiary program.

The program works closely with the locals, community and small-scale suppliers. They will monitor and advise on every aspect: from the production, industry and consumer insight, workshops and technical tips. In addition, the program accesses the convenience retailer’s buying teams. This enables suppliers to involve in the retail listing.

“We are absolutely delighted and have been counting down the days until we see our product in almost 200 Co-op stores,” the couple expressed.

Gerard and Mariae Hackett added, “We aim to spread the joy of Malaysian food, which is relatively unknown, and the backing of Co-op is supporting the development of our business.”

Co-op’s head of category, Rebecca Oliver-Mooney, stated, “[Gerard and Mariae] are exciting and innovative producers, with a real point of difference and offering something unique which I am confident will interest and excite our shoppers. I am delighted to see their products on Co-op’s shelves.”

The birth of Dapur Mariae roots from Mariae, that moved to another country in 1989 while missing the taste of home.

Mariae met Gerard, a French classically trained chef, after living in Yorkshire for three years. The couple hits it off after knowing they both enjoyed cooking and serving food to their family members. From there, they decided to venture into the competitive business world.

Moreover, Malaysian restaurants were hard to locate in the UK. Ceasing the chance, Mariae and Gerard made it happen by selling Mariae’s homemade sauces in small batches. Also, as their business flourishes, Dapur Mariae’s products are all over the UK, making it a no-hassle for any curious tasters or Malaysians that yearn for the taste of home. It is easier for them to savor the delicious delicacies from the well-known food haven!

Here is a sneak peek of Dapur Mariae’s authentic sauces on the shelves of Co-op Manchester, found by Mariae herself. How exciting!
