Auto-Car Driver! This Is How To Change Gear Correctly

Are you an automatic car driver? If so, how do you stop to park your car? Do you go from drive (D) or reverse (R) to Neutral (N), then Park (P)? After that, you pull the handbrake? Is that the right way to stop and park your car?

In a sharing on Twitter by @AidFawzal, he mentions that going from N to P is the wrong way to park your car. Instead, the right way is to go from D or R to N, and then you pull the handbrake. Only after that, you can turn to P.

Maybe some of you will wonder, why does it matter? Well, it does matter.

The right way (D/R – N- handbrake – P ):

If your car stops at a place where the road is uneven (hilly), all the burden from the car will be handled by the brake, not the gear. Nevertheless, if the road is even and flat, there should be no problem.

Check out a video from @TikTokBerguna for further explanation:

The video as well explains that we can not go from N to P without a handbrake in between. The person reveals that that way can damage the gearbox. @AidFawzal shares his opinion on this matter.

He states that the gearbox might or might not be damaged. He explains that the gearbox or the gear used to move the car will not entirely be damaged. When you turn to P, something will withhold the automatic gear from moving.

If you apply D/R – N – P – handbrake on an uneven road (hilly), the burden will be handled by the parking pawl. This will cause this component to damage and break if the burden is too much to handle.

Thus, it is safe to apply D/R – N- handbrake – P as your car can park and stop anywhere. However, D/R – N – P – handbrake can only be applied on even roads (not hilly).

You are a driver, so, it is better to apply D/R – N- handbrake – P to be safe!
