This year, people can really see the black-naped pheasant pigeon for the second time. John C. Mittermeier, who is the director of the lost birds’ program at American Bird Conservancy said in a statement, “After a month of searching, seeing those first photos of the pheasant-pigeon felt like finding a unicorn”. That proves how rare and also significant this particular finding is for them.
The director added, “It is the kind of moment you dream about your entire life as a conservationist and birdwatcher”. It was teamwork between the Papua New Guinea National Museum, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the American Bird Conservancy.
Other than that, this is interesting knowledge for all people to know of. The local name for the species is Auwo. No wonder people are searching for the species high and low. All because the mentioned species looks very majestic and also great to know about.
