Electrical Safety Measures That Need To Be Taken During And Post Flood

Since Malaysia is hit by the yearly flash flood season again, many safety measures need to be taken to ensure your safety, especially electrical safety.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) encourages everyone that lives in flooded areas to practice these precautions to guarantee their safety during and after the flood.

During the flood

  • Avoid using electrical appliances.
    • Make sure the main switch is closed to avoid sudden electric shock.
  • Call 15454 or Facebook TNB Careline to cut off the electricity when the water level increases.
  • Stay away from electrical appliances and cables submerged in the water, though with insulators.
  • Distance yourself from electric poles or any TNB devices nearby dunked in water to avoid shock.
  • Turn off all switches and pull out the plugs.
  • Switch off the PV solar system to avoid feedback supply to the premise’s wiring.
  • Before evacuating, turn off every main switch.

After the flood

  • Turn off the main switch before cleaning any electrical appliance or fixing the wiring.
  • The registered electrical contractor should observe the switches and electrical appliances dunked in water.
  • Stay away from tree branches near the power line.
    • This is because there might be an electrical transmission.
    • Inform TNB of immediate action.
  • Don’t use a ladder or pole made from steel/aluminium near the power line.
  • Parents should always keep alert of their children’s whereabouts so they won’t be playing near the damaged electric cables.

Contact TNB if there are any problems with the electrical appliances or other related issues affected by the flood.

For more information, call TNB Careline at 15454 or Facebook TNB Careline.

Follow these steps and always be safe.
