GE15: Will The Vote Count If The Voting Paper Has Dirt (Smudge) On It?

Voting day is nearing! This week on Saturday, the 15th General Election (GE15) will be held all over Malaysia. To all Malaysians who are legal to vote, take time to go home to your respective hometown. Be a responsible Malaysian citizen for our country’s sake.

Some people may be nervous to vote, especially first-timers. They may be clueless about what to do. Fear not because the steps are easy! Follow this guideline.

Besides that, there has been a rumour circling us recently. The rumour stated that any voting paper that has dirt on it (smudge from stamp mark) will not be counted as a vote. How true is that?

Let’s listen to the explanation below from @akademipilihanraya_spr:

@akademipilihanraya_spr explains that if the dirt (smudge from stamp mark) is not on your ‘X’ mark, the vote is counted. Therefore, you should not be worried about your vote being invalid.

But what if the dirt (smudge from stamp mark) is on your ‘X’ mark? No, you don’t have to be concerned. Your vote is still valid.

However, it is best for the voting paper to stay clear and clean. Thus, @akademipilihanraya_spr advised volunteers who work for GE15 to fold the voting paper horizontally instead of vertically. This is to ensure the ‘X’ mark does not get ‘dirtied’ by the stamp mark’s smudge.

Therefore, do not be paranoid. Just do your part this Saturday for our beloved Malaysia.
