Istana Negara Facebook page recently congratulated Malaysian para shuttler after managing to grab his seventh men’s singles title at the World Para Badminton Championship in Tokyo.
In the Facebook post, Istana Negara sends their congratulations to Cheah Liek Hou after once again making Malaysia proud. The 34-year-old won the singles championship with a 21-14, 21-12 victory.
He wont the title over his arch-rival Dheva Anrimusrhi from Indonesia at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium.
After his win, Cheah Liek Hou expressed his gratitude on his social media accounts.
“This is the 7th time the world champion in the singles event and the 14th time the Champion in a row in my career. Another record I created”, he wrote.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has helped and supported me over the years”, he continued.
He also thanked his coach who trained him since he was young and his assistant coach for helping him win the world championship.
Besides that, Liek Hou and his partner Mohamad Faris Ahmad Azri also managed to secure a second-place win for the men’s doubles title.
They lost 13-21, 12-21 to Dheva and Hafizh Brilliansyah Prawiranegara in the final. Nonetheless, he had already won the double title 4 times in a row before that. He won the title a total of 5 times before loosing to Dheva in 2019.
Liek Hou first clinched the singles in 2005 before retaining it in 2007. He then won four straight times in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. In the men’s doubles, he won the title in 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
