Microburst Phenomenon Shocked Residents In Bekasi, Indonesia

It is reported that a phenomenon of heavy rain like a waterfall from the sky occurred in Bekasi, Indonesia. According to detikNews, this natural phenomenon is known as Microburst.

The microburst phenomenon shocked residents in the Wibawa Mukti Stadium area, Bekasi. Interestingly, the heavy rain that fell from the sky was only in one area. In fact, rainwater is like a waterfall that falls from the sky.

Cited from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency’s statement, this natural phenomenon is called a Microburst. This is a phenomenon of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that move vertically. For your information, this phenomenon occurs because it is influenced by the presence of cumulonimbus clouds.

The Head of the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency said that microburst is a downburst phenomenon (wind blowing downwards or downward force) on a smaller scale. He added that these two phenomena have similarities.

A microburst initially develops when a downdraft begins to slide down from a rain cloud. The area covered is usually less than 4 kilometres.

“Microbursts are capable of generating winds of more than 100 mph causing damage in a significant area. The time span for a microburst to occur is around 5-15 minutes,”

In addition, it is difficult to predict the location and time of the occurrence of the phenomena due to the local nature of its occurrence.
