3 Steps By Syed Saddiq To Improve Public Transport’s Facilities And Infrastructure

Syed Saddiq has been serving the state of Muar since 2018. Not only that, but this young politician and co-founder of MUDA actively advocates issues regarding the stability and enhancement of the country.

As someone who’s always up-to-date with the concerns of the public, Syed Saddiq gave his take on the poorness of Malaysia’s public transport infrastructure and facilities. In a video he posted on Twitter, the MP of Muar underlines three suggestions that the government can consider.

3 improvement steps by Syed Saddiq

1) City planning should be improved

Did you know? Barcelona introduced a pedestrian-friendly facility which is Super Blocks. This prioritises the pedestrian’s safety while walking to their destination.

Additionally, every bus and MRT station in Singapore has a designated pathway for pedestrians.

Sadly, Malaysia still lacks this most crucial aspect. Imagine walking to the LRT, MRT or bus station in the morning or night without lights on the pathway. Isn’t that dangerous?

Thus, Syed Saddiq says it’s important to prioritise pedestrian safety in city planning and not only for road users.

2) Encourage remote working

Bosses should encourage work from home as it benefits many people.

Can you imagine? Malaysians waste almost 70 minutes on the road every day because of traffic congestion. On average, they lost about RM300 every month! The amount can be spent on other things like bills or maintenance.

Malaysian companies should exemplify Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft. These big companies allow workers to work from home. This step can ease the burden of many married women with kids. Thus, a stress-free work routine is promoted.

3) The government should solve last-mile connectivity issues

The government can offer incentives like e-scooter and bicycles to workers. Not only does this reduce carbon footprint, but it also promotes a healthier lifestyle. Malaysians can exercise and go to work at the same time.

These are the three improvement steps by Syed Saddiq. Do you agree with them? Or do you have other alternatives?
