Engage Life and SJMC Joins Forces to Combat Obesity and Diabetes

Engage Life, a unique corporate wellness solution provider with a social impact, today announced a strategic partnership with Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch a nationwide wellness movement, Growing Well Together (GWT). Aligned with Engage Life’s vision, this initiative leverages corporate influence to enhance the wellbeing of communities at scale, positioning large organisations as “Wellness Sponsors” within the communities they serve to drive a societal shift. The partnership aims to address the growing concerns of obesity and diabetes in Malaysia by providing comprehensive healthcare solutions and fostering a healthier lifestyle among Malaysians.

With obesity and diabetes reaching epidemic proportions in Malaysia and posing significant health risks to the population, Engage Life and SJMC recognised the urgent need to address this crisis. The pair, leveraging on Engage Life’s expertise in corporate wellness and SJMC’s capabilities as an award-winning tertiary hospital have joined forces to create a comprehensive wellness program. The GWT is aimed at supporting individuals and organisations on their wellness journey, while specifically preventing and managing these chronic diseases.

A cornerstone of the movement is a 30-day in-app kick-off program, providing participants with personalised guidance, tracker and assessment features, and a supportive community to improve their health. Accessible through the Engage Life app, the program will focus on weight management, nutrition, and physical activity, with the goal of fostering lasting behaviour change.

To encourage and reward participants, the program offers exclusive savings from renowned partners such as Beacon Mart, SJMC, JBL, Brooks, and more. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of participation, recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records, along with a chance to win up to RM10,000 in rewards and prizes. Additionally, they stand a chance to enjoy a 3-day, 2-night getaway to one of Malaysia’s premier resorts: Cherating Club Med, Desaru Coast, or Beacon Resort.

Paresh Subramaniyam, Chief Executive Officer & Founder of Engage Life, said, “Having witnessed firsthand the impact of health struggles on individuals’ lives, we at Engage Life are deeply committed to creating a healthier Malaysia. Our partnership with Subang Jaya Medical Centre to launch the Growing Well Together movement is a major milestone in our mission. This initiative tackles the critical issues of obesity and diabetes head-on. By combining our expertise and resources, we aim to empower individuals and organisations to prioritise well-being and drive lasting positive change”, Paresh added.

Bryan Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Subang Jaya Medical Centre, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are pleased to be Engage Life’s Healthcare Partner. I believe that this partnership will add value to our hospital and patients. Beyond disease management, healthcare is about helping our patients get back to their lives. This collaboration aligns with our commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of our community where healthy habits and screenings are essential. We look forward to creating a comprehensive approach to address the pressing health challenges facing Malaysia, and together, build a healthier nation for generations to come.”

SJMC sets the GWT program in motion by pledging 50 passes as part of its continuous efforts to promote positive health and wellbeing within their organisation. As one of Engage Life’s Wellness Sponsors, the hospital is moving towards taking a more holistic approach where their employees are empowered to take charge of their health. This initiative lays the groundwork for a more significant event that supports overall health and wellness as part of their 39th anniversary, which will be unveiled later in the year.

Engage Life has a proven track record in driving positive health outcomes. Over the past seven years, the organisation has helped businesses reduce medical insurance premiums by an estimated RM7 million through its wellness programs. Meanwhile, SJMC’s innovative approach to diabetes care, including their pioneering use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) technology – recognized with the GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific Award 2024 for Diabetes Service Provider of the Year – serves to amplify Engage Life’s impact, providing even greater benefits to individuals, companies, and the community.
