Brother Malaysia Leads Beach Cleanup & Turtle Protection Initiative

In an uplifting display of concern for the environment, Brother International Malaysia recently embarked on a mission to protect marine life and preserve local ecosystems through its “Save the Turtle Environmental CSR Activity.” Held  recently in Terengganu and Pahang, the event saw 24 of the company’s employees – including their Managing Director, Mr. Tsutomu Takaki – roll up their sleeves for a beach cleanup and to release endangered Green Sea Turtle hatchlings back into the ocean.

Brother International is recognised as one of the leading providers of home, office and business products and solutions, as well as products for the sewing and crafting aficionado and industrial solutions that revolutionise the way we live, work and create. Being a global brand, environmental and sustainability is of paramount importance to the organisation.

This initiative, therefore, is a small part of a bigger picture that aligns with the company’s 2050 Environmental Vision, which addresses critical challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and ecosystem destruction.

The beach cleanup portion of the CSR initiative targeted a stretch of beach in Cherating。 Armed with gloves and trash bags, the team collected some 160 kilograms of debris – much of it plastic, known as a scourge on marine life.

The event culminated in a heartwarming and magical moment at the Ma’Daerah Turtle Sanctuary when 50 tiny Green Turtle hatchlings were released into the sea. With a gentle push, participants helped these delicate creatures begin their long and unpredictable journey into the vast unknown. It was a simple yet profound act that reinforces Brother’s ongoing dedication to wildlife conservation.

While this latest initiative had an immediate impact on the cleanliness of the Cherating beach and the preservation of local wildlife, the long-term goal was to inspire participants to carry this consciousness beyond the weekend. The hands-on activities offered valuable lessons about the devastating effects of plastic pollution and the importance of biodiversity preservation, sparking a deeper sense of environmental responsibility among employees.

Brother International Malaysia remains committed to sustaining its CSR efforts. Following the success of the turtle conservation activity, the company has already laid out plans for more initiatives, including tree planting, sustainability workshops, and wildlife awareness campaigns.

In November, Brother International Malaysia will take on another worthy cause by participating in the “Relay For Life” event, a community fundraiser supporting cancer survivors and prevention initiatives. This dual focus on social and environmental responsibility highlights the company’s broad commitment to making a positive impact on both people and the planet.
