Converse MY Empowers Young Artists, A Strategic Collaboration to Elevate Malaysia’s Creative Arts Scene

On February 28, 2025, Converse MY successfully launched Creative Exploration, an artistic initiative under the global LOVE, CHUCK campaign. The launch event was officiated by YBhg. Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar, Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

This project brings together three key collaborators:

  • Converse MY – The brand management team for Converse Malaysia
  • Balai Seni Negara – Malaysia’s leading institution for visual arts
  • UiTM and MIA – Representatives from Malaysia’s higher education institutions specializing in creative arts

Bridging Art, Culture, and Fashion

The LOVE, CHUCK campaign serves as a global platform that connects Converse with local cultures through creative expression. As part of this initiative, Creative Exploration stands as Converse MY’s flagship effort for 2025 to support and nurture Malaysia’s thriving art scene.

The program is designed to establish a sustainable platform that fosters grassroots artistic development. Selected students from UiTM and MIA have created unique artwork using Chuck Taylor sneakers as their primary medium. These masterpieces are now being exhibited at Art Depot, Balai Seni Negara, from February 28 to April 12, 2025, before being showcased at major Converse retail stores across Klang Valley.

Creating Opportunities for Emerging Artists

Through Creative Exploration, students gain early exposure to the integration of art within the fashion industry while also engaging with the local arts community. The program further strengthens Balai Seni Negara’s position as a dynamic contemporary arts hub, fostering more collaborative opportunities within Malaysia’s creative industry.

Additionally, UiTM and MIA’s participation highlights their commitment to producing competitive and industry-ready creative talents. This collaboration underscores the importance of sustainable partnerships in empowering the next generation of Malaysian artists.

According to Dr. Shaliza binti Mohd Shariff, Head of Design Studies at UiTM’s College of Creative Arts:

Creative Exploration is a unique opportunity for our students to expand their creative horizons within the art and fashion industry. We hope to see more initiatives like this in the future.”

Her statement reflects Converse MY’s aspiration to make Creative Exploration an ongoing initiative, attracting more participants who share the vision of building a thriving creative platform for Malaysia’s young artists.
