Save Your EV (and Your Wallet), Smart Ways to Protect Your EV Car This Monsoon

As the year wraps up, Malaysia’s monsoon season arrives like a dramatic yearly guest, complete with rain, wind and occasional chaos. Malaysians, of course, can find humour in almost anything. But for EV owners, this is one plot twist that isn’t funny. A flooded electric car doesn’t just damage your vehicle; it also wrecks your wallet, your mood and possibly your will to live.

But fear not, your electric baby doesn’t have to suffer. Here are practical, TOI-approved tips to keep your EV safe, dry and far away from flood drama.

Rubber Seals to Rub Off Any Water Leakage

Rubber is your front liner to defend against water leaks. Make it a habit to regularly check all rubber seals around your car, especially on doors, windows, and charging ports.

Dampness, Stay Away From EV!

With this flood season looking particularly severe, your EV must be begging for extra attention for its battery.

Look out for any cracks or dampness; your battery might experience corrosion. No time left to wait, hit the nearest service centre to save your EV.

Give your car a sniff test! Damp spots can bring along a stink you won’t forget on your next ride. Put trust in TOI; they definitely knew better.

Special Care, Indoor Charger

First step, make sure every spot is completely dry. TOI also suggested that it’s best to charge your EV indoors and beneath a well-protected roof.

For added protection, it’s recommended to use waterproof covers for your cables and sockets. Remember, water is your biggest enemy!

Too bad, thunderstorms love drama. You should install a safety switch to protect yourself and your EV.

Coat Your EV from Rust

The corroded metal parts, yeah, we don’t want that. So, head straight to the closest service point and let your EV enjoy its own spa session.

Please request for rust-resistant coating to protect the underbody from any oxidation potential.

Also, you’re allowed to clean the lower body component using a minimum amount of water to get rid of debris bits.

Roll the Healthiest Tire

While driving on the damp road, your tire needs extra grip for a secure brake. Double-check your wheels now for any worn-out threads. Unexpectedly, the muddy road might sabotage your trip and turn it into a figure skating show.

Well done reaching the finish line! Your EV clearly has a devoted caretaker. Remember TOI’s tips and keep your EV off the flood waves. Surfing isn’t included in the warranty.
