ZTE Strengthens Strategic Partnership with SACOFA to Accelerate Sarawak’s PCDS 2030 and Digital Economy 2030 Vision

ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leader in integrated information and communication technology solutions, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with SACOFA Sdn Bhd (“SACOFA”).

The partnership aims to advance Sarawak’s digital infrastructure.

It will also support the State Government’s PCDS 2030 and Digital Economy 2030 agenda.

This strategic collaboration between SACOFA and ZTE demonstrates a long-term commitment to providing innovative and sustainable telecommunications solutions for the state of Sarawak, with a focus on expanding reliable connectivity to rural and remote areas.

This integrated approach ensures reliable, sustainable, and future-ready connectivity while minimising environmental impact.

Under the strategic framework, ZTE and SACOFA will explore deploying an integrated suite of next-generation connectivity solutions, including:

  • Rural Pilot base stations designed for efficient and scalable coverage expansion.
  • Advanced fibre access technologies such as GPON and XGS-PON
  • High-speed Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solutions for rapid last-mile connectivity
  • Trusted Public Wi-Fi platforms aligned with government security standards.

To address infrastructure constraints in remote regions, the partnership will also incorporate:

  • Hybrid microwave and satellite backhaul architectures.
  • Solar and hybrid-powered green energy systems
  • Intelligent remote monitoring platforms for autonomous operations

Moreover, ZTE’s solutions and SACOFA’s state-wide network modernisation initiative are aimed at accelerating broadband access to homes, longhouses, schools, healthcare facilities, and enterprises, particularly in areas where conventional fibre deployment presents logistical challenges.

ZTE also confirmed that the ongoing network modernisation initiative with SACOFA is progressing according to plan, meeting key implementation milestones, and supporting Sarawak’s broader digital transformation objectives.

Steven Ge, Managing Director of ZTE Malaysia, said:

“ZTE is proud to support the Sarawak Government’s digital transformation journey. By combining advanced fibre access, high-performance FWA, trusted public Wi-Fi platforms, integrated rural base stations, and smart green energy systems, we aim to deliver scalable, secure connectivity solutions tailored to Sarawak’s diverse landscape.”

“The continued success of our network modernisation collaboration with SACOFA reflects our shared commitment to technological excellence, execution discipline and long-term partnership. We look forward to further contributing to Sarawak’s ambition of becoming a leading digital economy in the region.”

Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff, Chief Executive Officer of SACOFA, stated,

Sarawak’s aspiration to become a high-income and digitally advanced State requires forward-looking infrastructure strategies and trusted technology partnerships. Through this strengthened collaboration with ZTE Malaysia, we are accelerating rural connectivity via fibre, FWA and secure public Wi-Fi platforms, ensuring inclusive access to digital services for all Sarawakians.”

“Strong technology collaboration is fundamental for advancing the State Government’s PCDS 2030 and Sarawak Digital Economy 2030 objectives. Partnering with SACOFA will accelerate digital infrastructure development, modernise the state-wide network, and reinforce SACOFA’s role as Sarawak’s leading telecommunications provider and connectivity hub.”

The continued momentum of this program reflects both parties shared focus on execution excellence, technological innovation, and long-term infrastructure resilience.

Through this partnership, ZTE reinforces its role as a trusted technology partner in Malaysia’s telecommunications landscape, supporting state and national initiatives that promote digital inclusion, economic growth, and sustainable infrastructure development.
