Proton Ahead: Intelligence That Connects People Takes Centre Stage At Klims 2026

Kuala Lumpur, 11th June 2026 – PROTON is set to make a strong technology statement at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026 under its booth theme “PROTON AHEAD: Intelligence That Connects People, showcasing how advanced technologies are being developed to support smarter, safer and more connected mobility experiences for Malaysians.”

The theme reflects PROTON’s continued progress towards intelligent mobility, bringing together advanced technology, real Malaysian driving needs and meaningful customer experiences. At KLIMS 2026, visitors will be able to explore key innovations across hybrid technology, safety systems, powertrain engineering, vehicle architecture and connected in-car experiences through the PROTON Intelligent Mobility Zone.

Among the key highlights at the PROTON Intelligent Mobility Zone is PROTON’s HEV technology, a hybrid system designed to combine the efficiency of a Dedicated Hybrid Engine (DHE) with the responsiveness of a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The system is developed to support a quieter and smoother drive under suitable conditions, especially in city traffic, low-speed driving and stop-and-go situations.

One of the key highlights is EV Mode, where the vehicle can move using electric power under suitable conditions. As driving conditions change, the system intelligently switches between EV Mode, Series Mode, Parallel Mode and Direct Drive, also known as ICE Mode, automatically selecting the most suitable driving mode based on vehicle speed, power demand and battery condition.

The system is powered by a 1.5-litre Dedicated Hybrid Engine engineered specifically for hybrid operation, delivering 82kW of rated power and 136Nm of maximum torque, with a 14-to-1 compression ratio and RON95 fuel compatibility. Supporting China 6b / Euro 6d emissions standards, the engine is engineered to achieve up to 46.5% peak thermal efficiency, supported by technologies such as Atkinson-cycle combustion, water-cooled EGR, and a smart cooling electric water pump to help improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

The Dedicated Hybrid Transmission also features a P1 and P3 dual-motor system, where the P1 motor supports engine starting and power generation, while the P3 motor serves as the main driving motor and supports energy recovery during deceleration. Together with a high-efficiency Power Control Module (PCM), the system is designed to deliver responsive, efficient and intelligent power management for everyday driving.

Through its HEV technology, PROTON aims to show how hybrid technology can be made practical and relevant for Malaysian drivers — from urban commuting and daily school runs to weekend travel and long-distance balik kampung journeys.

Dato’ Ir. Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, said, “Our technologies represent an important step in PROTON’s journey towards intelligent mobility. At KLIMS 2026, we want visitors to experience how our technology is not only advanced but also designed around real Malaysian driving conditions. PROTON AHEAD is about moving forward with intelligence that connects people, journeys and aspirations.”

Supporting the HEV showcase is the PROTON Intelligent Mobility Zone, featuring key technologies including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), i-GT Engine, PROTON Electrical & Electronic Architecture (EEA), PROTON Modular Vehicle Cockpit Concept and PROTON IHU Smart Cockpit. These displays highlight how PROTON is strengthening its technology foundation across safety, powertrain efficiency, vehicle architecture and connected in-car experiences.

Alongside its technology displays, PROTON will also present its model line-up, including the PROTON Saga, S70, X50, X70 Sport Edition and X90, demonstrating the brand’s ability to support Malaysians across different life stages and driving needs. A special highlight will be the modified Proton X50, bringing a younger, sportier and more expressive character to the brand’s “King of SUVs”, one of PROTON’s most popular SUV models.

Visitors will also be able to explore PROTON’s brand progress through dedicated booth experiences, including interactive technology displays, 3D LED visual showcases, robot interactions, social media sharing activities with rewards and guided technology visits for selected community groups.
