Petrosains Earns National Recognition for Advancing Inclusive STEM Education and Sustainability

Petrosains, the social impact arm of PETRONAS, has received its first national recognition at the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2026, winning Company of the Year (Science Centre) – Education, Sustainability & Transformation Award for its efforts to make STEM education more accessible, inclusive and meaningful for communities across Malaysia.

The award was presented by YB Puan Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, recognising Petrosains’ role in bridging education gaps and bringing science closer to underserved, indigenous and rural communities through its flagship Discovery Centre, PlaySmart Satellite Centres in Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, PlayFarm, Discovery Rover outreach programmes, Tech4All initiative and nationwide community engagements.

Beyond nurturing future STEM talent, Petrosains actively champions inclusivity by creating learning opportunities for Orang Asli and Peribumi communities, neurodivergent learners, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and children from underserved backgrounds, ensuring that more young Malaysians are able to learn, discover and thrive through science.

Celebrating its 11th year, the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards is a leading platform that recognises organisations that have demonstrated excellence in advancing sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives while contributing to the nation’s socio-economic development.

Mr. Ezarisma Azni Mohamad, Chief Executive Officer of Petrosains Sdn Bhd, said:

“We are deeply honoured to receive this recognition, which reflects the collective efforts of our employees, educators, partners, volunteers and communities who share our belief that science should be accessible to everyone. As the social impact arm of PETRONAS, we remain committed to advancing education, sustainability and social impact by empowering communities through STEM learning and creating opportunities for future generations.”

In addition to broadening access to STEM education, Petrosains continues to embed sustainability into its programmes and learning experiences. Recent initiatives include the revitalisation of Petrosains PlayFarm in Johor Bahru and the enhancement of Sustainability Gallery within the Discovery Centre which uses interactive experiences to encourage greater awareness of sustainable living.

Petrosains also supports environmental stewardship through initiatives such as the 3E@Schools programme and Waste to Product, which promotes circular economy practices by repurposing used industrial materials into practical items such as laptop sleeves and pouches.

The award further reflects Petrosains’ role in supporting PETRONAS’ aspiration towards a Just Transition, where sustainability extends beyond environmental stewardship to include empowering people, strengthening communities and creating inclusive opportunities for all.

As Petrosains continues its mission of igniting curiosity, inspiring change and transforming lives through science, the organisation remains focused on building a future where STEM education is accessible to all Malaysians, regardless of geography, background or circumstance.
