Google Back-to-School 2026: Free AI Upgrades & Discounted Subscriptions for University Students

As Artificial Intelligence becomes an integral part of how students learn, conduct research, and prepare for their future careers, making advanced AI tools accessible has never been more vital. In line with the Malaysian Government’s initiative to broaden digital access and elevate AI literacy among youth, Google has unveiled a new suite of AI tools and exclusive offers tailored for university students ahead of the upcoming back-to-school season.

Free & Discounted Google AI Plans

To ensure students are equipped with high-tier tools without breaking the bank, Google is introducing major subscription deals for eligible tertiary students across 140 countries, including Malaysia:

  • Google AI Plus (12 Months Free): Eligible university students can access a full year of Google AI Plus at zero cost. The plan features Gemini Omni (enabling conversational interactions with video and text inputs), significantly higher usage limits for peak study periods, and 400 GB of secure storage.
  • Google AI Pro Plan Discount (RM23.99/month, down from RM97.99): Built for power users, this heavily discounted tier unlocks 4x higher usage limits in Gemini, expanded AI integration across Search and Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs), 5 TB of storage, and YouTube Premium Lite.
  • Google AI Pro + YouTube Premium Bundle (RM33.49/month, down from RM118.89): An all-in-one entertainment and study tier providing full YouTube Premium access alongside top-tier AI features.

These promotions are available on Google’s official offer page until 31 December 2026.

New Personalised Learning Tools

Alongside subscription offers, Google is rolling out updated AI features across Gemini and Search to help students study smarter:

  • Interactive Learning: Study Notebooks automatically convert diagnostic quizzes into tailored study plans, while interactive 3D visualisations and Gemini Live assist students in tackling complex topics or prepping for oral exams.
  • Active Problem Solving: Tools like Practice Quizzes and Google Lens’s “Check My Work” guide students step-by-step through challenging equations and problems to encourage true comprehension over quick answers.
  • Classroom Integration: Educators can also leverage integrated features like Guided Learning directly within Google Classroom to track progress and offer tailored support.
