A new contemporary art platform is set to launch in Kuala Lumpur this October 2026. Organised by Art Anonymous and A Place Where (APW), with Richard Koh Art Advisory as event consultant, ART KL is a dedicated space for emerging artistic voices across Southeast Asia, with an inaugural edition spotlighting artists born after 1990.
Conceived as a stage for experimentation, discovery, and generational exchange, the platform places a younger generation of practitioners at the centre of the art ecosystem rather than on its margins.
Spotlighting Regional Talent
The fair’s debut edition will feature 10 gallery presentations showcasing solo or duo artist presentations. These curations offer fresh perspectives on identity, memory, community, and contemporary life:
- Malaysia: Galeri Sasha, Zhan Art | Space
- Singapore: Intersections, Wetterling Teo Gallery
- Indonesia: ISA Art Gallery, V&V Gallery
- Thailand: Supples, Warin Lab Contemporary
- Philippines: Finale Art File
- Vietnam & China: Vin Gallery
Site-Specific Installations & Community Impact
Alongside gallery showcases, ART KL will present a series of site-specific installations by Malaysian artists, including Farhan Rizuwan, Lee Mok Yee, Najib Bamadhaj, Neoh Shin Yen, Phillip Wong, Samantha Lee, Wong Perng Fey, and Alexdrina Chong You Qiu. Designed specifically for the venue, these spatial works challenge conventional painting formats to offer immersive encounters. Future editions plan to expand this installation programme to artists across Southeast Asia.
Fostering social impact, the event will also host a charitable fundraising auction featuring works donated by artists and collectors. All proceeds will go directly to The Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home, a Kuala Lumpur non-profit providing shelter, education, and support for underprivileged and orphaned children.
A Creative Hub at APW Bangsar
Set within the industrial architecture of a repurposed printing factory at APW Bangsar, ART KL provides an intimate, flexible venue for exhibitions, panel discussions, and educational talks designed to engage seasoned collectors and new art enthusiasts alike.
By creating an accessible, community-driven entry point, ART KL aims to strengthen connection, dialogue, and growth for Southeast Asian contemporary art from the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
