This Merdeka season, Pavilion Bukit Jalil is turning its spaces into a celebration of Malaysian culture, creativity and community through “Living Unity Together, Here.”, running from 15 August to 6 September.
One of the biggest highlights is the 10th World Bonsai Convention 2026, which will be held in Malaysia for the first time.
Often described as the “Olympics of the Bonsai World”, the international convention will bring together bonsai masters, enthusiasts and practitioners from more than 100 countries.
From 28 August to 6 September, visitors can explore thousands of bonsai, suiseki and natural wood artworks across the mall, alongside live demonstrations, workshops, seminars and master classes by renowned bonsai artists.
But the Merdeka celebration doesn’t stop at bonsai.
Pavilion Bukit Jalil is also bringing a modern spin to one of Malaysia’s most recognisable traditional symbols with 69 giant Wau Bulan artworks created by students from UCSI University’s De Institute of Creative Arts and Design.
Measuring four feet in diameter, the colourful installations will be displayed at the Centre Court from 21 August to 6 September, combining traditional Malaysian heritage with contemporary student creativity.
Visitors can also discover a range of indoor and decorative plants from City Gardening KL, while Merdeka-themed activities will include a craft workshop where Pavilion Privileges members can create miniature Wau Bulan decorated with batik-inspired designs.
And for shoppers, there are plenty of rewards throughout the campaign, including shopping vouchers and mini bonsai with qualifying purchases.
From bonsai and Wau Bulan to batik, plants and community activities, Pavilion Bukit Jalil’s Merdeka campaign brings together different parts of Malaysian culture under one roof celebrating what makes the country unique and the unity that brings everyone together.
