Malaysian bakery brand The Baker’s Son today announced the official Halal Certification of its Central Kitchen by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), marking a new chapter in the brand’s journey since its establishment in 2009. The milestone was celebrated at The Baker’s Son outlet at Sunway Geo and officiated by YBrs. En. Imran Abd Rahman, Senior Assistant Director, JAKIM; and YBrs. En. Hanisofian Alias, Interim Chief Executive Officer of HDC, alongside Daniel Teng, Chief Executive Officer of Jaya Grocer; Joseph Teoh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Jaya Grocer; Kimberly Xavier, Director of Supply Chain & Fresh Market of Jaya Grocer; and Peter Tan, Head Baker of The Baker’s Son.
While The Baker’s Son, the bakery brand within Jaya Grocer stores, has always been committed to using Halal ingredients in its products, the official certification of its Central Kitchen by JAKIM further strengthens its commitment to quality, cleanliness, food safety and consumer confidence.
Starting from a family passion for baking with its first branch in Mutiara Tropicana, The Baker’s Son now brings freshly baked products to customers across Malaysia with more than 60 outlets, while remaining rooted in the values of quality, care and dedication. Today, the brand offers a range of freshly baked products, including its popular Butter Croissant, Caramel Cream Cheese Bun and Portuguese Egg Tart.
“Growing up, I saw first-hand the passion and dedication my father put into baking, and that experience stayed with me. When I established The Baker’s Son in 2009, I wanted to carry that same passion forward. Today, receiving our official Halal Certification is a meaningful milestone because it represents not only how far the brand has come, but also the collective effort of everyone behind it,” said Peter Tan, Head Baker of The Baker’s Son.
The certification journey took nine months, reflecting the team’s efforts to meet the required Halal standards across its Central Kitchen operations. The Central Kitchen supplies freshly baked products to more than 60 outlets across Malaysia, making the certification an important step in strengthening Halal assurance across the brand’s growing network.
The certification process involved a comprehensive review covering ingredient sourcing and verification, supplier requirements, production processes, hygiene and sanitation, food safety, documentation and compliance, bringing together the collective efforts of the production, quality assurance and operations teams, together with its suppliers.
“Halal goes beyond the ingredients used in a product. It is about having a robust system that safeguards Halal requirements throughout the entire business operation, from ingredient sourcing and handling to production and operational controls. HDC is pleased to support The Baker’s Son throughout its Halal certification journey, providing guidance and assistance to meet the on-going Halal standards.
The certification of its central kitchen shows the company’s commitment to embedding Halal assurance into its business operations, further strengthening consumer confidence and demonstrating that Halal practices can be an integral part of sustainable business growth,” said Hanisofian Alias, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC).
To celebrate its Halal journey with customers, The Baker’s Son will be offering RM1.00 Sugar-Dusted Doughnut from 29 to 31 August 2026, while stocks last. Terms and conditions apply.
