Pokémon Lights Up KL Skyline With First-Ever Drone Show, Takes Over KLCC In Epic 30th Anniversary Celebration

Pokémon fans were treated to a colourful weekend in the heart of the capital as PokéXciting! took over KLCC Park in celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary.

Held on September 12 and 13, 2026, the two-day event transformed the iconic park into a Pokémon-themed wonderland packed with immersive experiences, character appearances and several first-time moments for fans in Malaysia.

Among the activities were Pokégenic photo opportunities, Pokémon Meet & Greet sessions, Pokémon Kids TV, as well as life-sized Pokémon statues and balloons scattered throughout the venue.

Pokémon GO players were also able to catch a special PokéXciting! Pikachu with a local Location Background and participate in a region-unique GO Stamp Rally. Fans who missed the event will still have a chance to complete the stamp rally, as it will remain available at KLCC Park for one month after the event.

PokéXciting! Pikachu Makes Its Malaysian Debut

One of the biggest highlights was the Pikachu Parade and PokéXciting! Parade, which marked the Malaysian debut of PokéXciting! Pikachu.

Dressed in a vibrant turquoise costume, the special Pikachu led the celebrations alongside fan favourites including Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Eevee and other Pikachu, turning KLCC Park into a lively Pokémon party.

The celebrations did not stop when the sun went down.

Fans were treated to the PokéXciting! Special Night Show before the weekend culminated in Kuala Lumpur’s first Pokémon Drone Show.

Pokémon characters illuminated the night sky against Kuala Lumpur’s famous skyline, providing a memorable finale to the anniversary celebration. Photos included in the event release also show Pokémon formations lighting up the sky near the Petronas Twin Towers.

More Pokémon Experiences Coming in October

For fans who could not get enough of the celebration, more Pokémon experiences are already on the way.

Beginning October 1, 2026, Ombak KLCC will launch a mall-wide campaign featuring Pokémon-themed decorations and activities built around four rotating themes, Pikachu, Fire-type Pokémon, Grass-type Pokémon and Water-type Pokémon.

Visitors can look forward to gift redemptions as well as colouring and crafting activities at the Concourse.

Gamers will also have an opportunity to try Pokémon titles on the Nintendo Switch 2, including Pokémon Pokopia and Pokémon Champions.

Meanwhile, newcomers interested in the Pokémon Trading Card Game can join the Pokémon TCG New Trainer Journey, where participants can learn how to play and receive rewards including Demo Decks and vouchers redeemable for original-design TCG accessories.

Pokémon began with the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan in 1996. Three decades later, the franchise has expanded far beyond video games into trading cards, animation, films, apps, merchandise and live experiences around the world.

With Pikachu parading through KLCC Park and Pokémon taking over the Kuala Lumpur night sky, PokéXciting! gave Malaysian fans a memorable way to celebrate 30 years of catching, battling and growing up with Pokémon.
