Kakao Entertainment and Atlantic Music Group (AMG) have entered a strategic partnership to develop K-pop talent and expand the genre’s audience across North America.
The partnership will see the Korean entertainment company and U.S. music group work together on music production, distribution, marketing, promotion and artist development.
The collaboration combines Kakao Entertainment’s expertise in K-pop with Atlantic Music Group’s global reach and experience in developing artists.
Creating New Opportunities for K-pop Artists
Joseph Chang, co-CEO of Kakao Entertainment, said the partnership brings together two companies with complementary strengths and a shared goal of creating new opportunities for K-pop artists and intellectual property worldwide.
“By combining our expertise, networks and market insights in K-pop, we aim to create new pathways for Korean artists to reach broader audiences and build lasting success in the global music market,” Chang said.
He added that the partnership represents an important step in Kakao Entertainment’s wider efforts to strengthen K-pop’s global presence and expand collaboration with international industry partners.
What Does Atlantic Music Group Bring To The Table?
If the name sounds familiar, AMG operates several labels, including Atlantic Records, 10K Projects and 300 Entertainment.
Its wider music network includes major names such as Bruno Mars, Charli xcx, Cardi B and Miley Cyrus, giving the partnership access to an established US music industry network.
However, this doesn’t mean these artists will be collaborating with K-pop acts under the new deal. Rather, the partnership brings together Kakao Entertainment’s K-pop expertise and AMG’s global reach and artist development capabilities.
How Will The Partnership Work?
According to Kakao Entertainment, the collaboration will cover several parts of an artist’s journey, including:
Music production: Exploring opportunities such as songwriting camps and featured collaborations.
Global distribution: Bringing music to international streaming platforms.
Marketing and promotion: Reaching listeners through social media, TV, radio and other promotional channels.
Artist development: Building strategies around each artist’s musical identity and potential in overseas markets.
Fan engagement: Helping artists connect with and grow their international fanbases.
Rather than waiting until an artist is ready to enter an overseas market, both companies intend to plan for global growth from an earlier stage.
Another Step In K-Pop’s Global Expansion
K-pop has continued to reach audiences beyond South Korea, with international collaborations and global artist-development projects becoming an important part of the industry’s growth.
One example is KATSEYE, which emerged from HYBE and Geffen Records’ global girl group project. While that project is separate from the new Kakao Entertainment-AMG partnership, it shows how Korean entertainment expertise and international music industry networks can come together to develop artists for a global audience.
For now, Kakao Entertainment and AMG have not announced which specific artists will be involved in their new partnership.
Whether the collaboration leads to new groups, international features or fresh sounds, the key question is how the two companies will turn their combined expertise into opportunities for the next wave of K-pop artists.
