Shanghai Watch introduces the Originate · Fangyu Collection (致敬·方隅), a new mechanical watch series inspired by the architecture of The Bund City Hall Plaza, one of Shanghai’s historic landmarks.
Drawing from the building’s enclosed courtyard and distinctive architectural profile, Fangyu translates its geometry into a compact 38mm square case. Defined edges meet subtly curved corners, creating a silhouette that feels structured without appearing rigid — an idea captured by the collection’s guiding phrase, “The Great Square Has No Corners.”
Further down the line, the architectural influence continues across the dial. Fine decorative textures reference details found within the historic building, while slender baton markers, sword-shaped hour and minute hands, and a lollipop seconds hand introduce a restrained neo-classical character. A date window at 3 o’clock completes the everyday functionality.
Constructed from 316L stainless steel, Fangyu is fitted with a flat sapphire crystal and offers 5 ATM water resistance. The watches are paired with soft Alcantara® straps, providing a contemporary contrast to the sculptural geometry of the case.
Inside is Shanghai Watch’s ST2130 automatic mechanical movement, offering approximately 42 hours of power reserve and visible through a transparent exhibition case back.
The collection is offered in four interpretations: green, grey, burgundy and white. The burgundy model distinguishes itself with a warm rose-gold-tone case, while the remaining versions highlight the natural character of stainless steel.
More than an exercise in geometric design, Fangyu reflects the relationship between Shanghai Watch and the city whose name it carries. Architecture becomes case form, historical details become decoration, and a familiar Shanghai landmark is reinterpreted as a contemporary mechanical watch.
