There has been an increasing number of issues regarding the patients of COVID-19 who got infected again for the second time. Horrifyingly, these cases would usually be showing a lot more severe symptoms. This is what happened to a man who lives in The United States of America after he got reinfected with COVID-19.
It has been confirmed by the scientists that a particular 25-year-old man who originally from Nevada, US was, unfortunately, got infected with COVID-19 twice in his lifetime. Both of the COVID-19 infections occurred about 6 weeks apart from each other. The male patient was first tested positive with COVID-19 in the month of April, but then later recovered and has been tested negative in the early month of May.
However, at the end of May, this man has gone to an urgent care center after he experienced shortness of breath and then was hospitalized with oxygen support. The study wrote, “The second infection of COVID-19 was symptomatically more severe than the first time around”. Fortunately, the man survived his second frightening ordeal with COVID-19.
Several types of research have been done to study the differences between the first infection and also the second infection and these are the obtained results:
- Very high doses of the coronavirus might have caused the second infection of the virus and also produced a more severe disease.
- The reinfection was highly caused by a virulent version of the virus that has been undergone mutation.
- A mechanism in the human body that is known as the antibody-dependent enhancement is actually making the infections worse for a human beings.
