A wrecked metro train at the end of the platform was reportedly ‘rescued’ by a work of art from plunging down. According to Mirror UK, the incident at De Akkers station in Spijkenisse, the Netherlands, occurred after the train crashed through a barrier.
However, the metro train was rescued by a large sculpture near the barrier. The train will slide about 10 meters down if it is not ‘caught’ by the large sculpture called ‘Saved by a Whale’s tail’.

The driver of the vehicle who was also the only person in it managed to escape and did not suffer any injuries.
Although it works well and as a back-up train barrier, the artwork is not designed and built to be used with that function.
However, it is still unclear how the accident could have happened.

“There are two tails. If the metro had hit that other tail, I think it would have fallen through,” said Maarten Struijs, the artist who created the sculpture.
“Sure, it looks poetic, but it’s really a stroke of luck that the train is carried by the tail,” he added.
