POKOK SENA, Nov 13 — A diploma holder chose to forgo her wish to be in the 9-to-5 work field to help her family at their eatery as a roti canai maker.
Nur Amni ‘Aqilah Ruzaini, 23, said she started making roti canai in 2015 after her father was bedridden for a month due to a fall.
“As the eldest of three siblings, I need to take over from him because no one else could do it.
“I learned from observation how to make roti canai from my father who has been operating the eatery for almost 30 years,” she told Bernama when met recently.
Nur Amni ‘Aqilah said a career as a roti canai maker was not her main choice after finishing a diploma in Business Management from Sungai Petani Vocational College 2 in Sungai Petani.
However, failing to secure a job after six interviews left her with no other choice than becoming a roti canai maker to help her family.
To improve her skills, Nur Amni ‘Aqilah said she attended a roti canai making course and was able to learn almost 20 roti canai menus.
She also has been selling frozen roti canai and murtabak since June to attract more customers.
“I also plan to buy a machine to help me produce this frozen roti canai and murtabak faster and hope in the future, I can sell more and supply them to the supermarkets,” she said.
