A female pigeon named New Kim became the most expensive pigeon in the world after being bought in Belgium at the highest price in history.
The online auction center Pigeon Paradise (PIPA) revealed that the pigeon was bought by buyers from China for $ 1.9 million last Sunday.
“I believe it’s a world record, there has never been an officially documented sale at such a price,” said Pigeon Paradise chief Nikolaas Gyselbrecht.
“I didn’t think we could reach that amount,” he added.
With the sale of New Kim, it has broken the sales record of a pigeon named Armando which was previously sold for $ 1.19 million last year.
New Kim, the best two-year-old pigeon breed from Antwerp was initially auctioned starting at $ 237 and rising to $ 1.56 million in less than 90 minutes.
It is reported that in China, pigeon racing can result in huge victories. Maybe that is the reason for Chinese buyers to buy New Kim at such an expensive price.
