Malaysian Customs Department has successfully made one of the biggest drug busts in Malaysian history on the recent 23rd of March 2021. They have taken it to their own official Facebook page to issue out a particular statement about the massive drug bust that they have conducted.
They have successfully managed to stop the operations of one of the major international cartels by seizing a total of 94.6 million amphetamine pills that were carefully hidden in a shipment of trolley wheels. According to the Facebook posting, the pills were estimated to weigh about 16,000KG in total and also worth RM5.2 billion.
The Facebook posting stated, “The drug shipment arrived in Port Klang from a country in the Middle East and is believed to be heading to East Asia. The drug bust was a success due to the collaboration and intel-sharing between Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Home Affairs and the Royal Malaysia Police. This is certainly a very big step towards fighting international drug cartels”.
They also added, “For the record throughout 2018, JKDM has seized a total of 3.35 tonnes of various types of drugs worth RM160 million, while for 2019, JKDM has seized a total of 4.75 tonnes of various types of drugs worth RM790 million and in 2020, JKDM has seized a total of 2.86 tonnes of various types of drugs worth RM117 million. The success of this security cooperation is considered one of the biggest successes in the fight against international drug cartels”.
