The Finance Minister of Germany Hesse state has reported committing suicide after being deeply worried over economic situation due to Covid-19 outbreak, state premier Volker Bouffier said on Sunday.
Thomas Schaefer, 54, was found dead near the railroad tracks yesterday and The Wiesbaden Prosecutor’s Office in a statement believes it has nothing to do with the crime.
“We are very shocked and do not believe this news. It is very sad,” said Hesse Chief Minister Volker Bouffier.
According to Bouffier, Schaefer, who served for 10 years as finance chief in Hesse, has been working hard to help companies and employees affected by the pandemic.
“We think he may be too worried. We hope to have someone like him in these difficult times,” said close associate Chancellor Angela Merkel.
