There are actually so many options of fast-food restaurants that can be chosen from here in Malaysia. If you thought that there are already overwhelming selections in this country, you have clearly not seen them all back in the olden days. Once popular in Malaysia, lots of fast-food restaurants unfortunately permanently closed down their business.
The reasons for the closing of all the fast-food restaurants would vary from financial problems to the lesser responses from the customers for them in the country as time passes by. It is indeed so sad to see these fast-food restaurants had to rap up their business but it is just part of how the business world functions. These are 5 of the restaurants.
1) Grandy’s
Grandy’s Country Cookin’ which got shortened to be known as Grandy’s is actually a homestyle cooking and comfort food restaurant chain that is based in Nashville, Tennessee. This fast-food restaurant used to open in Malaysia. As the matter of fact, Grandy’s is one of the earliest fast-food restaurants to start operations in this country. Some of Grandy’s most popular menus would be the boneless crispy chicken served with boiled corn and mashed potatoes.
2) Yellow Cab Pizza Co.
As a surprise, this Yellow Cab Pizza Co. actually comes from the Philippines and not from the United States of America. This fast-food restaurant is indeed owned by Max’s Group and that is also the owner of the restaurant fried chicken chain Max’s Restaurant. In Malaysia, the branches for this fast-food restaurant used to be near Ampang Point and also near Dang Wangi. Unfortunately, this restaurant could not last long due to the huge numbers of competitions that also sell pizzas.
3) Wendy’s
Wendy’s is actually an international fast food restaurant chain from America and was founded by Dave Thomas on the 15th of November 1969, in Columbus, Ohio. This restaurant has existed in Malaysia since the year 1980 but had to close due to not being able to survive with the local culture that is still less exposed to the concept of fast food at that time. However, Wendy’s returned to Malaysia again in 2008 and continues to receive a warm response from customers. The year 2019 saw Malaysians suddenly shocked by the closure of Wendy’s branch in Malaysia.
4) Shakey’s Pizza
Shakey’s Pizza is actually a pizza restaurant chain based in the United States. Founded in the year 1954, it was the first franchise pizza chain in the United States. Other than that, Shakey’s Pizza is a fast food restaurant that offers the first pizza menu in Malaysia. However, the entry of Pizza Hut in the Malaysian market makes Shakey’s Pizza be no longer able to compete. Finally, in 2005, Shakey’s Pizza merged with Domino’s, and all Shakey’s Pizza branches were turned into Domino’s Pizza.
5) White Castle
White Castle is another American regional hamburger restaurant chain. It has been generally credited as the world’s first fast-food hamburger chain that was founded on September 13, 1921. White Castle restaurant used to exist here in this country back in the 90s but sadly not anymore.
