Organon Malaysia, a subsidiary of Organon (NYSE: OGN), a global healthcare leader in women’s health, proudly unveils its latest breakthrough in postpartum care, the Jada® System. This groundbreaking device utilises low-level vacuum technology to create a vacuum in the uterus, encouraging the uterus to contract and work with the body’s natural physiology to control and effectively treat abnormal postpartum uterine bleeding and saving lives.

Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is a significant contributor to maternal mortality worldwide. With over 20% of maternal deaths annually attributed to PPH according to the World Health Organization (WHO), addressing this issue is crucial.

Each year, about 14 million women experience postpartum haemorrhage globally, and a woman dies from post-partum haemorrhage every six minutes. Beyond the individual tragedy, poor maternal health outcomes can have disastrous social and economic effects on women, their families, and surrounding communities.

“Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is a serious condition, affecting 1 out of every 10 mothers. In Malaysia, it is one of the top three causes of maternal mortality, and the loss of even one mother is one too many. The introduction of the Jada® System marks a significant milestone in our mission to address the urgent global health crisis of postpartum haemorrhage, providing a crucial tool in our efforts to save lives and improve maternal health outcomes,” said Mr Bilal Somra, Executive Director and Country Lead of Organon Malaysia.

The Jada® System is designed to provide rapid control and treatment of abnormal postpartum uterine bleeding or hemorrhage to avoid severe complications from Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH)

In Malaysia, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reports that the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in 2022 was 26 per 100,000 live births, with 110 maternal deaths. Although the MMR improved from 44 per 100,000 live births in 1991 to 21.1 per 100,000 in 2019, PPH remains a critical concern, responsible for 17.5% of maternal deaths in 2019. The persistent threat of PPH as one of the major contributors to maternal mortality underscores the urgent need for innovative and effective strategies to combat this crisis in Malaysia.

The Jada® System is designed to provide rapid control and treatment of abnormal postpartum uterine bleeding or haemorrhage to avoid severe complications from PPH. This revolutionary device utilises regulated low-level vacuum to induce  contraction of the atonic uterus, effectively stopping bleeding within minutes. According to the pivotal PEARLE study, it has demonstrated that the Jada® System resolves bleeding in a median of 3 minutes after initiating therapy, offering a swift and effective solution for women with PPH. The uterine bleeding was successfully controlled in 94% of patients without the need for further treatment. In nearly every case, 98% of Jada® investigators rated and said the device was easy to use overall.

“Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) can be unpredictable, and inadequate management can lead to grave consequences. The innovative Jada® System can be life-saving in this challenging situation in the management of PPH, where time is pivotal in saving the mother’s life,” said Professor Dr Jamiyah Hassan, Consultant Fetomaternal, Dept of Obs & Gyn, Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah, UiTM Puncak Alam & Faculty of Medicine, UiTM Sungai Buloh Campus.

Organon is dedicated to championing women’s health worldwide. By investing in novel solutions to fill critical gaps in care, together with the global community, we can shift the status quo so that every woman can access the best possible maternal care.
